Edition 2 Week 5
New Furniture for the New House
I have bought a desk and a chair for my new room. It is all very compact – minimialist, even. Pictures are imminent on Facebook.
Chinese New Year
Here’s a photo of me with a big pig. There is one for each of the animals, although I don’t think I’ve found the Monkey yet. Any ideas on things to do over this CNY period?
Work next week
I am starting work next week!!
Charitable App Update
While in Melbourne I met up with the team behind Charitable for the first time. The team seems super capable technically (design, programming, BD) and excited too.
What I’m reading/watching/hearing:
- The Signal and the Noise (book) – explores what the world of data is now capable of, and what it is not capable of, using many case studies which help to illustrate the general usefulness of them.
- The Internet’s Own Boy (doco) – the programmer-activist-entrepreneur guy who was “targetted” by some governmental bodies and, facing potentially 35 years in prison, killed himself; very important discussion about governments using data, governments being transparent with using data, and with how much/little control we have over the laws which govern us.
- Values and Frames (website) – summarising research from the past few decades, this explains how our values impact what marketing messages are important; this is revealing from a psychology/sociology angle.
