Ate out at Mercado
It’s a Spanish restaurant, hidden in an alley (Ash St) in the city. It’s pretty expensive – I ended up spending $75 incl wine. I think the meal was worth the price, but not cheap.
Dinner with Bushwalking Friends
Caught up with some of the people I met when bushwalking. Also, one of my friends from Canberra came down and so we all ate together. It was great.
Kitchen Renovations almost Complete
The stove is working, but we don’t have water in the kitchen yet and the kitchen counters still don’t have tops, so I can reach directly into the drawers. The kitchen looks modern and white.
Saw Louis Theroux and the Nazis (documentary)
Louis Theroux is this kinda awkward British journalist. He lives with one of America’s Most Famous Nazis, and tries to understand their psychology. It was a very undramatic look into this person’s life – no excessive hype or melodrama. It was great, you should watch it.
Edward Snowden in Melbourne
Did any of you go to see him? He didn’t actually go, he was there via videolink.
Melbourne Uni makes everyone studying Accounting subjects

The changes would see a reduction in the maximum number of points students can get from breadth subjects, from 100 to 75 points [BT: that means only 6 breadth subjects over 3 years, rather than 8].
The reduction of breadth points is to allow for two more core subjects: Accounting Reports and Analysis and a new subject, Principles of Finance, which will replace Finance 1. The aim of the change is to better prepare students for the workforce.
Re: Accounting Reports and Analysis, I think it is a good move. People need to read financial statements, even though it seems like a boring topic.
It limits the number of breadths. Breadths are a wonderful chance for students to genuinely learn something new, something few people have the time to do post-uni. That is a shame, and inherent to 3-year-undergrad nature of BCom.
Learned How to Play 500
The game is far too nerve-wracking. I could never be a gambler. I actually think my nerves have gotten worse over tie.
Have asked for more work at work
I was undershooting where I should be in order to meet my annual targets. I might be going into a very busy period over the next few months, in order to make up this number.
3-month Manager Catch-Ups
So far work is pretty happy with me. (Supposedly.) Only thing to improve is checking up on my work for small mistakes. That’s something I’m already aware of. I was told my communication was good. That’s something I was already working on, so good to hear.
What I’m Reading/Watching/Hearing:
- Horrorstor (book) – I could not recommend this book enough! It’s a horror story taking place in an IKEA at night. It’s exciting. It starts off funny, poking fun at IKEA, but gets scary. Also, the chapter headings are novel. E.g.
- Super Carlin Brothers (YT channel) – I’ve found a fun channel of two brothers who alternate making videos a la Vlogbrothers. Some of their interesting videos are about How All Pixar Movies Fit Into One Storyline or how Wall-E is Actually the Villain.
