Edition 14 Week 17
Grad Dinner!
We had another Grad Dinner and we ate at Bar Luca. It had really good burgers: Blame Canada 200g wagyu beef pattie, maple glazed streaky bacon, American cheddar, poutine & maple aioli. Also, I forgot to invite one of the grads so he couldn’t come. It was pretty awkward when I realised the day before the dinner.
Effective Altruism Meetup App Idea
Someone at the EA Meetup had an app idea for an app which let you easily donate to charities. You might click an icon on your phone and it would quickly donate, say, $1 to your selected charity. It might ding and vibrate to thank you, and then give you data about how much money you’d donated so far and let you brag about it.
Ate at Mamak
The original Mamak. It’s famous for it’s Roti. There was a 15 minute line outside. Oh 😦.
What I’ve been Reading/Watching/Hearing:
- Make Dredd Twoooo (song) – a light-hearted video/song about the great movie, Dredd. Highly recommended if you haven’t seen it. If you haven’t, there are other great songs on the YT channel.
- Alexander Hamilton (song) – latest acclaimed musical from Broadway. A hip hop inspired musical about one of America’s founding fathers. Very catchy tunes.
- What Works: gender equality by design (lecture) – More about social psychology and changing behaviour. Good for anyone who wants to change people’s perspective.
- To Sell is Human (book) – Once, people used to be able to avoid sales. Every day, salesmen sold stuff, and we did whatever we did. Now people spend a lot of their time explaining, sharing or introducing people to new information. Effectively, we all do some sales. And here are the essential tools for learning how to do so.
