Went Bushwalking
The reason for this late post is that I did a 3-day solo hike this long weekend! It was a 46 km trek from Katoomba to the Jenolan Caves. It was a totally spontaneous decision to walk from Wednesday, but I was able to buy a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat and borrow a sleeping bag in time.
The weather was perfect for a hike, and I met some cool people along the trip.
Pythons At Work
Some of you may know that I do a bit of coding in my spare time. Well, recently, I’ve been able to try out my luck with using Python (a language I’ve learned at home) for Big Data purposes – mainly data scraping from websites.
Can We Have Faith in Politics?
I went to a dinner where Bay Warburton spoke about how his faith shapes his work in politics. I find it interesting to understand how people’s faith and values shape their world view, given that I was brought up at an Anglican school and have with Anglican choirs, but don’t feel very religious at all.
The speech was fine, although Warburton’s main point was that being Christian meant diligence and hard work in the job, which wasn’t much to reflect about.
What I’m Reading/Watching/Hearing:
- Flatland (book) – It’s about a 2D world, and how such a world would look, and what happens when someone from the 3D world tries to interact with this world. It takes the premise very far – e.g. if you lived in a 2D world, everyone would look like a line, like when you look at a penny from the side.
- I’ve started a series of other books, but I’ve yet to get heavily invested in any.
