What the World Needs Now
I’ll update this infrequently with things I think would make the world better, were in charge of everything. It’s a page that’s open to criticism and suggestion.
Government
- Acceptance and use of quick RCTs as a part of a politician’s policy-making
- Ongoing research into possible solutions to the asylum seeker problem. Both the non-recommended ideas and recommended ideas should be published.
- Regardless of whether one option is good, we need to know what that option means before we can make that choice. You can’t choose without knowing outcomes.
Education
- Teaching of character skills (grit, EQ, executive function) at schools. But don’t let it influence grades.
- Schools should be structured with learning from online EdTech, teachers as mentors and assistance for confused students, and project-based class time in applying knowledge
- Mandatory education about financial literacy, statistics, human biases, economics, and politics/law.
- Financial Literacy and Stats fit into Maths
- Stats and Human Biases fit into Science
- Human Biases fits into English
- Economics and politics/law fit into the Social Studies and Philosophy subjects
- CBT studies to improve emotional control and improve emotional awareness, such as those outlined in “THINKING, FAST AND SLOW? SOME FIELD EXPERIMENTS TO REDUCE CRIME AND DROPOUT IN CHICAGO”
Improving Life
- Siestas in the middle of afternoon
- Quantember Calendar to make organising dates easier, faster and simpler.
